DIZO with the tagline ‘Be Different’ is the first brand under Realme TechLife ecosystem trying to make its way into consumer tech market and with the launch of DIZO Watch R, it’s on the right way. DIZO have launched multiple products in Indian market including earphones and smartwatches with aim to establish its presence in budget segment.

DIZO Watch R is the budget smartwatch with AMOLED Display and priced aggressively at ₹3,499. Inside the box, it comes with Watch, charging cable and user manual. I have been using the watch for three days and I will discuss all the aspect of the watch including the issues I faced and way to fix it.

BUILT QUALITY

The smartwatch looks and feel premium with sturdy built and gorgeous display. The display is 2.5D curved around the edges which also aids in navigation. Watch frame is made of metal with matt finish which gives the watch extra classy look. There are two buttons on right side and they are well placed within watch so it won’t hurt you during push-ups or exercising.

The watch only weighs around 45gm and it feels light on hand. The company claims to have anti-fingerprint coating on display and has hardness of 7H which should get you through daily wear and tear. The watch comes with 22mm replaceable silicon strap and it doesn’t look cheap on hand.

Built quality is great but when I pressed upper button in silent room in this cold winter, I was able to hear the sound of spring when it was close to my ear. Well, its no issue but that was something I discovered.

DISPLAY

The main differentiating factor for the DIZO Watch R is it’s 1.3” AMOLED Display. The display has max brightness of 550 nits which gives out punchy vibrant colours. It has pixel density of 392 PPI (Pixels Per Inch) which makes it sharp and clear.

Being AMOLED Display, company has given the functionality of Always on Display (AOD) and it is bright enough for indoor situation. You have option to choose from two different watch faces, analogue and digital. Turning on the AOD, battery will drain faster than usual.

Only one complain I have is that screen is brighter even in the lowest setting. I wish it could get more dimmer so its comfortable during night time.

BATTERY LIFE

The DIZO Watch R houses 280 mAh battery and claims to have 12 days of battery life but in real world, it should give you around 8-9 days of battery life with AOD turned off. I have been using watch for the past three days starting with full charge and with heart rate monitoring turned on always, battery has drained to 70%. With AOD turned on battery will drain faster and watch will only last up to 3 days.

HEART RATE, SPO2 AND ACTIVITY TRACKING

When it comes to budget smartwatches, some areas are needed to be compromised to achieve the price but DIZO didn’t. What surprised me was the accuracy of the heart rate monitoring. I checked the accuracy of heart rate monitor and SpO2 with Pulse Oximeter five times and I found the data to be 97% accurate. In case of SpO2 watch was always off by one percent but that’s okay. (Please do not use the watch as medical device. It is for reference only). When you measure heart rate on DIZO Watch R, give it 5-7 seconds to get align with accurate reading. When you turn on continuous heart rate monitoring, watch will measure your heart rate at the interval of 10 minutes and that cannot be customized.

In terms of activity tracking, watch comes with 110+ sports mode. I have not done any activity tracking on this watch but I checked the steps counter through short walking and accuracy was about 98%.

WATCH FACES

There are plenty of watch faces to choose from and you can customize your own watch face with the image of your choice. The only downside is that you can only store single watch face in addition to four watch faces already given in the smartwatch. Also, adding new watch face takes bit longer than usual. I hope they fix these in upcoming updates.

USER INTERFACE (UI)

User Interface is the heart of smartwatch (even smartphones). You can easily differentiate cheap smartwatch from good one by experiencing its UI. The user interface of DIZO Watch R is clean, smooth and very fast. There is no lag while changing watch face or navigating through menus. It offers lots of customization given the price point.

DIZO Watch R comes with basic smart notification alert, call alert, music control, camera control, timer and stopwatch. You can select through three menu style- List, Smart and minimalist. You can also change the screen on time from 5 sec to 25 sec and even set alarm from the smartwatch itself. It also offers sedentary, drinking water reminder at customizable intervals.

At the end, it’s premium looking, beautifully built smartwatch with gorgeous display cutting no corner for the demanding users at the given price point. It is definitely worth the money and at this price it is better option than fitness bands in the similar price tag. Leave a comment below if you feel that DIZO is here to disrupt the wearable market.

UPDATE: DIZO Watch R is back in stock and the sale will resume from 16th march. Apparently company has solved the battery drain issue and watch might come with upgraded firmware update than before.
